STEM for Excellence – with and for Others
Over the summer, Wahyanites spared no effort to equip themselves – not only striving for personal breakthroughs in STEM, but also to sharpen and put their skills and knowledge in good use in serving others. Some achievements and meaningful causes are highlighted as follows:
40th National Olympiad in Informatics (NOI)
Felix HO of 4S and Kodi SIU of 4J were shortlisted to represent Hong Kong with their six counterparts to compete in the 40th National Olympiad in Informatics in July 2023. It was the first time Felix and Kodi dipped their toes into a highly competitive competition at a national level, and was indeed a precious opportunity for them to learn, improve and evolve – just like their senior brother did back in 2021. Always strive to become a better version of yourself, and all Wahyanites have our best wishes!
Competition on System Modeling & Optimisation (COSMO 2023)
Two teams of Wahyanites entered the COSMO 2023, and under the guidance of our dedicated Maths teacher, Gordon HUANG and Colman YEE of 5K emerged as the Champion; Bosco CHANG and Harry LAU of 4J received the Honourable Mention.
Co-organised by the Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Department of The Chinese University of Hong Kong and The Hong Kong Association for Computer Education, COSMO aims at encouraging students to learn to use mathematics and computer technology to solve real-life problems. We are pleased to see that Gordon and Colman managed to rise as efficient problem-solvers with hard knowledge when being tasked with “Post-COVID19 Passenger Forecast for Hong Kong Airlines” in the competition.
Young IT Ambassador Award Programme (YITAA)
As Young IT Ambassadors, not only did Wahyanites acquire a wealth of IT knowledge from workshops, courses and training camps, they also gave back to the society by volunteering. This summer, they taught seniors to use modern technology like smartphones, which is instrumental in accessing useful information in a timely manner and enhancing social connections.
