Remembering Fr. Zee Chi-chung George, S.J.: A Life of Dedication
It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the passing of Fr. Zee Chi-chung George, S.J. in the evening of 14 June 2025 at St. Teresa’s Hospital at the age of 85.
Fr. Zee was born in Shanghai and graduated from Wah Yan College, Kowloon, in 1958. At the age of 20, he joined the Jesuits on Cheung Chau Island in Hong Kong. After 12 years of formation, he was ordained a priest at Wah Yan College. Following his studies in India, he made his final vows at Wah Yan College, Kowloon on the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in 1980.
Fr. Zee dedicated his life to education and formation. Known for his gentleness and kindness, he served as a teacher and supervisor for many years at Wah Yan College, Kowloon. He also served as the parish priest at St. Ignatius Chapel and was the director of the Whole Person Centre (圓融軒), where he promoted counseling and guidance. He supported many parishioners in their healthy growth in body, mind, and spirit.
In his later years, due to illness and damage to his vocal cords, Fr. Zee spoke little. Nevertheless, he expressed joy in “living more deeply in the Universal Christ” through contemplation. Fr. Stephen Tong, S.J., the Superior, admired Fr. Zee’s “resilience, patience, and humility” during his suffering, remarking that “he can now rest in the Lord’s embrace.”
Please remember Fr. Zee in your prayers, and ask the Lord to grant him eternal rest.
Funeral arrangements will be released in due course.
