National Security Education Day 2026
Featuring a wide range of events running across three days, the National Security Education (NSE) Day this year unfolded on 14 April under the theme “古藝今傳 (Tradition and Modernity)”, a tribute to the classical Six Arts (六藝 — 禮樂射御書數) with a contemporary touch.
The six game stalls, each focusing on one Art, invited students to reflect on what does China’s rich cultural heritage mean to us now. For example, piloting a drone, or participating in a flight simulation made the spirit of charioteering (御) feel less like a metaphor but more like a lived skill: steering, commanding and mastering with skills and care.
To strengthen awareness of national security alongside cultural preservation, the flag-raising ceremony was accompanied by a live performance of the National Anthem by the school’s symphony orchestra. Students were also treated to the resonant sounds of the Chinese orchestra, and the theatrical elegance of Cantonese opera – music carrying stories about identity, continuity, and responsibility from one generation to the next. There was also a visit from Government and EDB officials, underscoring how the Day’s learning belonged not only in classrooms, but in public life.
In the School Assembly specifically tailored to junior students, sharing on the farm-based study and Mainland China tour shed lights on how everyday life holds significance to cultural, ecological, science, and technology security. For senior forms, the Hong Kong Police officers delivered a talk on the importance of national security, enhancing students’ understanding from law enforcement perspectives.
The three-day event culminated in the “Green Lunch”, which served as a gentle reminder that safety can be as ordinary – and as essential – as what we eat.
