Mid-Autumn Festival – Time for Reunion and Gratitude
On this important Chinese festival which boasts a history spanning over 3,000 years, we organised a delightful array of festive activities and prepared traditional foods to deepen students’ understanding of our country’s rich cultural heritage.
Wahyanites had the opportunity to sample a variety of festive delicacies, including pomelos, taros, and water caltrops, as well as to savour different regional varieties of mooncakes from the north and the south, eg the Shandong jujube paste filling, the flaky Chiu Chow-style etc – they even got to make their own Cantonese-style snowy mooncake stamped with the school name “Wah Yan”. Festive activities such as lantern riddle-solving and DIY lantern-making put big smiles on their faces. Mini exhibitions exploring different domains of national security such as cultural security and outer space security added depth to their experience.
This meaningful reunion not only enriched students’ understanding but also fostered a profound appreciation for our nation’s intangible cultural heritage from multiple perspectives.
